To celebrate G'Day USA, for one night only -Jan 17th - you're invited to say G'Day to a World Class selection of Australian Short Films at Mudfest an Official G'Day LA Satellite Event.

MudFest (the Mudgee International Short Film Festival) hails from Mudgee, a small Wine Town in Central NSW Australia (around 4 hours drive from Sydney) and each Summer since 2005 has been presenting International Short Films under the stars to large audiences at local Winery Cellar Doors.

MudFest receives over 750 International short film entries annually and this year, MudFest is coming to the 'Egyptian' in Hollywood to present a selection of our best ever Australian entries to the film buffs of Los Angeles. Theatre-goers will enjoy a selection of 10 incredible Australian short films and will also have the chance to sample some boutique Australian Wines and Beer at interval!

Theatre opens to the public at 7.30pm with screening commencing 8pm, Jan 17th .

Australian Short Films to be screened at MudFest:

Ray

A little kid stranded, growing up in a country town he hates. The locals think it is a paradise, but as far as he can see it the only interesting stuff happens to a guy the whole town dismisses as a loser... Ray. The films main character is shown as a bit of an odd ball character, an adult behaving like a kid. He becomes intrigued by an old John Wayne film and emulates the film performance of John Wayne in his own job as a garbage collector.

G classification.

Beyond

A man suffering from a tragic loss attempts to find solace in a single breath underwater. On a drizzly night a lone swimmer stands at the end of a pool preparing to swim. Appearing troubled he gradually gets into the water. He swims the length of the pool without taking a breath. In the midst of his swim the film cuts to a dreamy image of a young child and mother blowing out a birthday candle. As the candle blows out the film cuts back to the swimmer as he reaches the end of the pool.

G classification.

The Lost Thing

A boy discovers a bizarre looking creature while out collecting bottle tops at the beach. Realising it is lost, he tries to find out who owns it or where it belongs, but is met with indifference from everyone else, who barely notice its presence, each unwilling to entertain this uninvited interruption to their day to day lives. For reasons he does not explain, the boy empathises with the creature, and sets out to find a 'place' for it.

PG classification.

Bee Sting

Emmett's in grade five. It's Valentine's Day and he has an announcement to make: he's in love. At the end of the day, he secretly places a Bumble Bee soft toy in his teacher Miss Cunliffe's desk. However, he soon discovers Miss Cunliffe has a crush of her own - on his widowed father no less. Even at nine, love is complicated.

Spider

Jack and Jill are always hurting each other's feelings. But like Mum said, "It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye." A man's practical joke on his girlfriend has dire consequences.

Snow

A boy explores the thin line between life and death and the relationship with his apathetic father who is powerless to stop his search. Shot in a snowy alpine setting, a boy buries a rabbit and then returns the following morning with his father to see if they have survived.

Be my Brother

A young man's charm and charisma challenges the prejudices of a stranger at a bus stop, while impacting on her world he also changes the heart of some else close by. Two young men, one with down syndrome, and a girl are waiting for a bus. The man with down syndrome strikes up a conversation with the initially unwelcoming girl, charming her with his charisma and humour, much to the dismay of the other man.

G classification.

Jerrycan

Set in rural Australia the film follows a teenage boy through a day at leisure hanging out with his mates. Five bored kids with nothing to do decide to blow something up. Paper, scissors rocks seals the fate of Nathan, who risks everything after he is bullied, into making a life and death decision.

PG classification.

Pension Day

The film unveils in reverse. Essentially a man comes home on pension day to find a note indicating that his wife has joined a male friend at a local bowling club. There is no dialog in this film. Slow motion shots of the man wrecking the home in a rage until he loses his balance and falls heavily.

Mavis

In 1979 Mavis New won the Country Women's Association of Australia's International Doll competition. This is the story of what she had to do to ensure it never happened again.
