Transformational Flight

Walkabout is a uniquely Australian concept steeped in the traditional Aboriginal culture -- a period of transformation when people restore, rebalance and reconnect with what is important in their lives.  On this flight, Tourism Australia and Qantas offer the same -- an opportunity to transform a traveler’s spirit and perspective via the new Qantas A380 Aircraft.

In this one-off special event, an A380 will take the place of the regular aircraft on the Sydney/San Francisco route. An Australia themed press conference and media event at the gateway will offer immersive experiences, demonstrating how an Australian vacation can rejuvenate and transform.

Finalist of a consumer promotion held in the weeks leading up to the event will be in attendance, and four lucky couples will be announced as the winners of a trip to Australia -- leaving on the flight back to Sydney that evening.

John Travolta and other well known Australian personalities will be in attendance. Other elements include the Qantas Choir, Aussie animals, make-overs, fashion, spa treatments, bush tucker and entertainment Aussie style.

The aircraft will then be available for media and the public to view.

Outcomes: 2009 will be the first year San Francisco is made part of G'Day USA, and this event will raise the profile of Australia in the Bay area as the hottest destination for 2009, and reposition the country as somewhere romantic, rejuvenating, inspirational and transformational. Qantas will be the first airline to have guests feeling better at the end of this transformational flight than at the beginning. 

Audience:   Affluent Bay area consumers, member of the gay and lesbian community, corporates and busy executives in need of a rejuvenating vacation.
