Biography

Pete Evans discovered his love of cooking because of his passion for the great outdoors. If he could work at night and have his days free to surf and fish, then a chef he would be.

Born in Melbourne but raised on the Gold Coast, Pete is not just your average chef - he's an avid fisherman, surfer, cookbook author and television personality. Pete's food career began at the tender age of 19 when, with brother Dave, he opened their first resturant, The Pantry, in Melbourne's bayside suburb of Brighton in 1993.

Hugos Manly, which they opened in 2008, is the latest in a chain of venues for the Hugos Group along with Hugos Bar Pizza and Hugos Lounge Kings Cross which between them share eight Sydney Morning Herald Food Guide chef's hats, 21 'best in Australia' titles and a World's Best Pizza award at the 2005 New York Pizza Show.

Pete also coordinates Hugos Catering & Hugos Team Building events which includes Pizza and cocktail making classes. Also, a pretty impressive point to note: 60 Members of the Oprah Winfrey Ultimate Down under Adventure Audience came to Hugos in late 2010 to learn the art of making the perfect pizza from Pete!

His most recent venture has seen him take on the role, with Manu Feildel, as presenter and judge of Seven Network’s My Kitchen Rules. The rather-easy-on-the-eye duo have now presented the show for two successful seasons, with plans for a third series in 2011.

Pete is hardly shy of the camera and his other work includes over 400 episodes as the host of Australia’s number 1 cooking show “FRESH” on Channel 9, 60 episodes of “Home” a lifestyle program, a one-hour behind-the-scenes-documentary, “Cooking For Our Princess Mary” and the series “FISH” which saw Pete and his fishing mad brother in-law ‘Udo’ travel around Australia sourcing & cooking the freshest catch.

And if that isn’t enough, He also annually appears at some of Australia’s most acclaimed food events such as “Tasting Australia”, “The Good Food Show” and “The Great Barrier Feast" as well as cooking in both LA and New York for the G'Day USA celebrations 2009, 2010 and 2012.

Pete and Hugos are proud to be actively involved with a variety of charities including Sydney Children's Hospital, The National Breast Cancer Foundation, Paul Newman Foundation, PLAN, Ocean Aid for Japan, Starlight Foundation to name a few. Pete is proud to be partners with Jacobs Creek Reserve Range, Sumo Salads, Range Rover and Breville.
