2007 Highlights

In 2007 Australia Week was extended beyond the West Coast and across to New York.

A signature of Australia Week, this black tie gala dinner honoured high profile individuals for significant contributions in their industries. In 2007, Russell Crowe and Naomi Watts were honoured & a Lifetime Achievement Award dedicated to Steve Irwin.  

Both in LA and NY families and wildlife lovers enjoyed an Aussie style family concert, learn about Australia's wildlife and watch performances by some of Australia's favourite stars, Terri and Bindi Irwin and The Wiggles.

Opening the New York portion of Australia Week The Nature Conservancy Gala Event raised the profile of their Australia Program, and was held at under the Great Whale at The American Museum of Natural History.

Australia's unique biodiversity and landscape are well known to the United States. Australia's position in the world -- as a hotspot for unique plant and animal species, as a geopolitical hub in the Pacific's southern hemisphere, and as an innovator in conservation science -- makes the island-continent a global priority for conservation.

The Australia Day Ball held in New York was a fantastic evening with Olivia Newton John as the Guest of Honour and also performed at the event.  

In LA there was a showcase of the classic Australian Film, Priscilla Queen of the Desert. The evening featured actors from the film and an after party complete with cast members from the
on-stage musical of the same name, currently running in Sydney. 

Fashion was the key focus of the New York Australia Week at the Ford Supermodels of the World event. The Australia Week committee partnered with Ford's Supermodel of the World program, creating a fresh angle on an iconic annual New York fashion event by staging a Fashion Extravaganza/Runway Show showcasing Australian designers.



2006 Highlights

Australia Week 2006 was a dynamic & exciting week of events that ran from January 14 to 22.  Events included:
 
The Black Tie Gala Dinner at the Hollywood Palladium honouring Olivia Newton John, who received a Lifetime Achievement Award presented by John Travolta. Hugh Jackman received an Excellence in Entertainment Award.

Building on his debut 2005 performance, the Crocodile Hunter himself, Steve Irwin, opened the Wolf Blass Aussie Festival with a unique presentation. Then, in a first, the whistle blew & the Sydney Swans played The Kangaroos in an AFL sanctioned football match on the Intramural field.

The Great Aussie Auction was an exciting opportunity for Americans to make their dream of an Australian Vacation a reality. Around 50 Australian 'Experiences' were opened to bidding.

A professionally run golf tournament included a golf clinic &18 holes of outstanding golf, followed by an awards banquet & Aussie style BBQ, creating networking & business opportunities between US CEO's & Australian Principals.

The Australia Week Committee partnered with Ausfilm to produce a unique event featuring a premiere of a new Australian Film not previously screened in Los Angeles.

Australian Fashion Innovators (Mercedes Australian Fashion Week) produced a fashion event that showcased a cross section of Australia's contemporary designers including clothing & jewellery. 

The Food & Beverage Trade Day promoted the best of Australian food & beverage to distributers & buyers from supermarkets, restaurants & caterers.

 

2005 Highlights
The 1,200 person sold out Penfolds Black Tie Dinner held at the Century Plaza Hotel honoured Mel Gibson, Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban and created a never before opportunity for Penfolds Wines to be included on the hotel's wine list.

The Australia Week Fashion Style Suite provided an opportunity for stylists to dress celebrities for both the Golden Globes and the Gala Dinner.

Ten Pieces of Indigenous Australian art were sold at the Wolf Blass Art Exhibition.

Greg Norman Estates Golf Day was sold-out with 124 players on the course.

Rosemount Estate Film & Style Festival opening night had a sold out crowd of 600 and was the U.S premiere of the Australian film The Oyster Farmer.

Australian food and wine promotion in 10 Los Angeles area Bristol Farms Grocery Stores ran for 3 weeks, included 20 Australian suppliers, 14 of which were new into Bristol Farms.

Travel and Education Expo - 23 exhibitors participated representing 6 states and some of Australia's best tourism and education experiences. Steve Irwin hosted two shows to a crowd of 750 on the first night and 1050 on the second night.
